The Metric Page
The Metric Page is the best place to visit to get the full context around a given metric. Each metric created in MetricFlow has a designated Metric Page in the Transform app.
The Metric page includes an editable chart of the metric that allows for basic slicing and dicing and modifying the chart type. The current visualization types Transform supports are: line, bar, area, single value, and tables. Chart types can be changed on the metric page (and on any chart widget in the application) by clicking the graph icon in the top right-hand corner.
Additionally, the Metric Page includes:
Definition and Lineage - These exist at the top of the page. The definition contains the canonical description of what the metric represents, and it can be set by the data teams in code or any owners of the metric. The lineage describes where the metric came from and how it was defined.
Annotations - Annotations exist underneath the metric chart and can also be viewed directly on the chart. They provide information about why the metric spiked or dipped in a meaningful way. This context is added by subject-matter experts on the metric, and helps solve confusion on why metrics behaved anomalously.
Saved Queries - This exists underneath the metric chart and provides all the Saved Queries created from Build in your organization that are associated with the metric. Clicking into these queries will open the Query Page.
Boards - This exists underneath the Saved Queries section and provides all the Boards in your organization that contain this metric. Clicking into a Board card will open the Board page.
Owners - This exists on the right-hand side of the page and includes details on the business and technical owners of the metric, so users always know who to ask for questions or issues about it.
Tiers - This exists on the right-hand side of the page, and it provides information about the level of importance in an organization for a particular metric.
Approvals - This exists on the right-hand side of the page and shows the last time the metric was approved and the last timestamp that something was changed about the metric.
Questions and Answers - Users can ask and answer questions and access the history at the bottom of the page. This will persist as a knowledge base about your metrics over time and will help reduce the friction when users have data questions.
Tags - This exists on the right-hand side of the metric page, and it allows owners to see tags associated to a metric to help with oganization.
Alerts - At the bottom of the page, you can view recent alerts for the metric.
